Dr. Emily J. Sano
Emily J. Sano is the emeritus director of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco (1996-2008) and a specialist  in  Japanese art.  She received her doctorate from Columbia University, and she held curatorial andadministrative  positions at the Kimbell Art Museum (1979-1989) and the Dallas Museum of Art (1989-1992).  Dr. Sano’s credits include several important exhibitions and catalogues at the institutions she served, and theacquisition of  many distinguished works of art to their collections.  In San Francisco, she oversaw the move ofthe Asian Art  Museum from Golden Gate Park to its present location in the city’s Civic Center.  As aconsultant, she  developed  and managed a private collection, and she has served on numerous boards andcommittees that promote the  study  and appreciation of Asian art.
